How To Avoid The Yo-Yo Dieting Trap

If you’re someone who has a goal of shedding a few pounds, then I’m willing to bet you’re not trying to repeat that process more than once. I can’t imagine anyone who would enjoy the process of losing weight, and intentionally go out of their way to do it over and over again. Although we all WANT to lose that weight and keep it off forever, how many of us are actually taking the steps necessary to make that happen?

The way you start your weight loss journey is everything. Just like anything else in life, if you have somewhere you want to get to, creating the right game plan to get you there is crucial. Here are a few of my best tips for getting started the right way:

GET YOUR BODY HEALTHY

One of the best things you can do is begin implementing foods that your body’s been missing. Start incorporating 1-3 large servings of veggies each day, increase your consumption of healthy fats, get better sleep! All this will play a big role in your progress.

BEGIN LIFTING WEIGHTS REGULARLY

This doesn’t mean go 0-100 overnight. If you’ve been extremely sedentary, three 20 minute workouts per week may be all you need. Make small, manageable goals, but then stick to them consistently!

PAY ATTENTION TO HOW MUCH YOU’RE MOVING

I would recommend investing in a pedometer or something of the sort. It’s very helpful to have a realistic picture of just how much you’re moving on a daily basis. Just like the weight lifting, you don’t need to try & do everything at once. If you’re walking 3000 steps per day, set a goal to go on a 10 minute walk each day and try to get that number to 4000 or 5000.

Notice how I didn’t mention anything about running 5 miles a day, eating 1000 calories, and taking your daily magical fat loss pill?? IT’S BECAUSE NONE OF THAT STUFF WORKS. Look, You’ve got your whole life ahead of you to enjoy. Don’t dig yourself into a hole by trying to take shortcuts. Get the weight off once, the RIGHT WAY. I promise you’ll be glad you did.
